Decent horsepower

Sony is working on a successor to the Z1 series, and it is Snapdragon 845 based. We expect this phone to launch at the Mobile World Congress in the last days of February 2018.

There might be four Sony flagship phones including the H8216, H8266, H8276 and H8296. Sony had multiple SKUs in the past, and this does not necessarily mean that all of them will use the same Snapdragon 845. Last Gen had a 4K phone, a mainstream and a performance phone with 720 and 1080 screen respectively. The previous generation XZ phones used the Snapdragon 835 while the XA1 mainstream series used the MediaTek Helio P20 core.

The H8216 phone from Sony comes with a Snapdragon 845, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage and microSDXC storage support. It has a 5.48-inch Full HD 1920x1080 HDR screen with a Triluminos display from Sony. The phone weights 156 grams measures 148 × 73.4 × 7.4 mm and features an IP65/68 rating.

The phone is likely to ship with a 12MP camera on the back with an Exmor RS sensor F 2/0 and steady shot stabilisation. The front camera comes with 15-megapixel support.  The device supports Quick Charge and has a 3,130 mAh battery and Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Sony did a good job being fast with the Android 8.0 updates for its Xperia XZ premium 4K phones and the tradition ought to continue in 2018.

Sony is improving its phones' design and features, but it lags behind the competition that mainly includes Samsung and some smaller players like One plus / Xiaomi and even  LG. The phone has the specs, but customers in 2018 want thin bezels, and let’s see how the new phone with thinner bezels will do against the heavy competition.
