After telling the word+dog that its fourth quarter results will not be that hot, TSMC is now saying that it has had rush orders from various clients and may see its business boosted in the fourth quarter as a result. According to the Economic Daily News TSMC chairman and CEO Morris Chang recently visited various clients, including NVIDIA and Qualcomm, and was met by positive responses from these firms.

TSMC has confirmed that it has received rush orders but is not certain if things would last into the fourth quarter. Experts had predicted a 3-per cent to 5-per cent quarter-on-quarter sales decline in Q4.

Yet a string of positive developments, including Apple and its suppliers getting ready to roll out new products, may fuel TSMC business and lift Q4 sales by two per cent to four per cent from Q3, analysts now say. Most of the orders were for TSMC's 65-nanometer and 40-nm nodes. This makes up more than half of TSMC's business.

The situation is also expected to increase clients' willingness to expedite 28-nm migration, the Economic Daily News claimed.
