Cecilia Abadie, 44, was ticketed after being stopped by a cop on suspicion of speeding. Since she had on her Google Glass wearable computer, the cop booked her for driving under the influence of a snazzy gadget which was not sporting an Apple logo. Apparently this is a capital offence in California.
The CHP said it was illegal to "drive a motor vehicle if a television receiver, a video monitor, or a television or video screen, or any other means of visually displaying a television broadcast or video signal that produces entertainment or business applications is operating and is located in the motor vehicle at a point forward of the back of the driver's seat, or is operating and the monitor, screen, or display is visible to the driver while driving the motor vehicle."
However Google said its product is meant to help the wearer be in contact with the world and not to make them be distracted from something important like driving. Apparently people want Abadie to fight the case in court so it is possible to get a ruling for future google goggle wearers.
Abadie said if she fights the ticket, the result might hinge on whether the judge is a techie, or just thinks they look silly.
