Microsoft changes Windows update programme

Two feature updates a year

Software King of the World, Microsoft, is making a few changes to how it will service Windows, Office 365 ProPlus and System Center Configuration Manager.

Microsoft plans to release two feature updates a year for Windows 10 every March and September. With each release, System Center Configuration Manager will support this new aligned update model for Office 365 ProPlus and Windows 10.

This should make Office 365 and Windows 10 easier to deploy and keep up to date. It also means that Windows will now be on a more predictable pattern for major updates and by aligning it with Office 365 Pro Plus making it easier for companies to service.

Vole has told us before that it does not plan to release a Windows 11, so these updates are the closest we will see to new software. It will also ultimately mean that all Windows software will be Windows 10 and there is not much anyone can do about it.  It seems that Microsoft has worked out that there is only so much milage you can get out of an operating system. All these current changes are to smooth its entry, along with Office 365 into the corporate environment.

Microsoft is also planning to finish off on Redstone 3 in September release window but it is worth pointing out that it traditionally releases the code a month after the code is completed.
