YouGov has named Gates as the world's most admired man, beating competition from Barack Obama and the Dalai Lama

This was nothing to do with his work with Microsoft, but more to do with his post-Microsoft efforts for humanitarian causes, most notably helping to eradicate malaria and declaring war on the mosquito. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is located near the Seattle Center.

YouGov ranked the most admired people in the world by gender. Angelina Jolie was the most admired woman worldwide. Michelle Obama came in No. 1 counting only US residents.

The survey was compiled using responses from YouGuv panelists in 35 different countries across the world.
