For those who came in late the 12VHPWR connector found in Nvidia’s best graphics cards sometimes melts and while the cause is known, no one has come up with an answer.

Now Chipzilla has issued a recommendation regarding the connector design which avoids the melting cables and GPUs. Intel suggests that the 12VHPWR connector uses a four-spring design instead of a three-dimple design. This should make the connector more durable and less prone to melting.

It works by increasing the contact area for electrical current flow inside the 12VHWPR connector and reducing the temperature rise of each contact,” said Intel.

Intel doesn’t have any graphics cards that use this connector yet — it doesn’t need a 12+4-pin connector that can supply up to 600 watts of power to the graphics card.
