Nakasone's arrival brings him alongside existing board members such as Adam D'Angelo, Larry Summers, Bret Taylor, and Sam Altman. It follows the recent inclusion of new members announced in March: Dr. Sue Desmond-Hellmann, Nicole Seligman, and Fidji Simo.

Edward Snowden, former NSA whistleblower turned Russian defector and mouthpiece, has expressed concerns over Nakasone's appointment.

In a statement, Snowden cautioned: "They've removed all pretence: Never trust OpenAI or its offerings (such as ChatGPT). Snowden’s warning might have been a little more reliable had his own government not declared that it wanted to be a world leader in AI despite being significantly behind the US in the race. Most of Russian AI expertise is being allocated towards military projects.
