Battery life to rival the sun

Lenovo has begun the rollout of its business-centric ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 laptop. The promotional materials boast an eye-watering 29 hours of battery life.

This is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor and runs on Windows 11. However, before we all start planning our off-grid adventures, a healthy dose of skepticism is warranted. Marketing claims and reality often have a rather tenuous relationship.

Lenovo's bold claim is based on a local video playback test, which might be relevant for those long-haul flights where in-flight entertainment just won't cut it. The 58Wh battery is standard for a device of this size and weight—1.24 kg and 16.9mm thick, to be precise.

At the heart of this machine lies the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor, featuring 12 Oryon CPU cores built on the Arm architecture. Lenovo has also included a dual-fan cooling system, presumably to keep the Snapdragon cool, though one wonders what other heat sources necessitate the second fan.

-  Processor:  Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite 12-core

-  Memory:  32GB LPDDR5x RAM, 1TB SSD storage

-  Screen:  14-inch 2,800 x 1,800 pixels (2.8K) OLED display with HDR True Black 500 certification, 100% DCI-P3 gamut, Dolby Vision, anti-glare, anti-reflection, low blue light

-  Connectivity:  2x USB-A ports, 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports, 1x HDMI 2.1, SIM slot, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 7, 3.5mm audio jack, noise reduction microphone

-  Physical:  Weighs 1.24kg (2.73 pounds), 16.9mm (0.67-inch) thick

-  Other:  FHD RGB & IR cameras with privacy shutter and face recognition security

This ThinkPad T14s is designed with business users in mind, offering a more robust selection of ports than your average consumer laptop. Naturally, this level of professional-grade hardware comes at a price. In China, where the model first appeared, it starts at around $1,700.
