Intel losing ground in Korea

Dominance over DIY market slipping

Chipzilla is starting to lose its iron grip over the DIY market, and the signs are already there in Korea.

Korean IT component and system selling platform Danwana says that Intel CPU sales have plummeted significantly, giving AMD the upper hand in market dominance.

The DIY CPU market share report claims that Intel's CPU market share has dropped to 45 per cent, recording a decline of more than 10 per cent in just a few months.

AMD's Ryzen processors have emerged as clear winners in gaining consumer confidence.

This drastic drop in market share might be due to Intel's 14th- and 13th-generation CPU instability issues. More than eight million CPU units were reported to be affected, a figure that does not even consider the global markets.

This significant drop in Intel's CPU market share in Korea indicates that Team Blue's offerings are no longer seen as reliable. The firm witnessed a 10 per cent year-on-year drop in market dominance, which is quite shocking.

As expected, this has created an opportunity for AMD which has seen a formidable increase in CPU market share, consistently staying over 50 per cent in the past few months. System integrators and retailers have reported a rise in demand for AMD Ryzen processors, with SKUs such as the Ryzen 5 7500F performing well in regional markets. The debut of the new AM5 socket type has also driven demand, ultimately increasing sales of AM5-relevant products, such as motherboards and memory.

However, not all is rosy for AMD, as its newest Ryzen 9000 series CPUs have experienced a slow start in the Korean markets, a trend consistent across global marketplaces.

Recently, it was revealed that AMD's high-end Ryzen 9 9900X CPU dropped eight per cent below MSRP in Europe just days after launch, indicating that demand is not picking up, mainly due to unmet expectations.
