The only problem is that Jobs’ Mob has been slow to get the update out of its flying saucer despite showing off what it claimed it could do in June. This left its latest phones looking remarkably like its older phones.

Now Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who acts as Apple’s semi-official press officer  has shared that the company will release an iOS 18.1 update for the iPhone on October 28 with *most* of the Apple Intelligence features onboard.

So, while Apple has released a launch date, it still appears to have been able to complete all of its features. 

Gurman notes in his Power On newsletter that the company has finally set a date for its big Apple Intelligence release. Since the update is significant, the company is taking its time to curate bugs and offer a smooth release.

While that is all laudable, it has had considerable time to sort out any bugs, given that its rivals have had their products out for the last two years.

It was previously speculated that the iOS 18.1 update for the iPhone would be released on October 15, as the company has released older updates during the same time frame.

iOS 18.1 will apparently bring the first wave of Apple Intelligence features to the iPhone, and most of these features will be shared by the Apple Watch and the Mac. Apple Intelligence consists of various AI models working together for a streamlined user experience, and one of the most highly anticipated additions is the new Siri. While we can expect some features, others will debut later this year.

The rest of the features will be available later this year or in early 2025 with the release of iOS 18.2. Based on the latest report, you should prepare your device for the release of iOS 18.1 on October 28. This means that if you were thinking of buying an iPhone 16 because you wanted all the AI, it might be better to wait for the iPhone 17, where all the features will be incorporated – possibly.
