After many years of investigation of Intel’s business tactics, the top antitrust regulator in Europe, the European Commission, has issued formal charges against Intel. The charges reportedly claim that Intel acted unfairly to remain dominant over its smaller rival, AMD.
This is not Intel’s first brush with government regulators. In 1999 Intel settled with the U.S. government over charges brought by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission over Intel’s marketing practices.
AMD has also filed legal actions against Intel in the U.S., South America and other jurisdictions, but there has been no trial or court proceeding as of yet on these claims.
