Some Frostbite titles will require 64-bit OS
DICE confirms that this is the future in 2013
Since the DICE developed Frostbite engine is being used by other studios within the EA family of studios, it is difficult to say which titles could be part of those that will require 64-bit OS support. We do know that the PC version of Medal of Honor: Warfighter that is due later this year, does use the Frostbite 2 engine, but it will not require a 64-bit OS according to what we have been told by our sources.
It could be that next Battlefield title for the PC might be the first title to take advantage of the 64-bit OS support in the Frostbite engine on the PC. Neither DICE or EA would confirm if this is the case. EA has been very supportive of the use of the Frostbite engine because unlike other engine’s that require licensing, since EA owns DICE, EA studios do not have to pay for the use of the Frostbite engine. So far DICE and EA have not opted to license the engine for use outside of EA owned studios.
