Call of Duty: WWII officially announced

Trailer in tow

After a teaser released earlier last week, Activision has now officially announced the new Call of Duty WWII, which is, as you could have guessed, is going back to its roots and the World War II scenario.

While Sledgehammer Games as the developer, which was behind both the COD: Modern Warfare 3 and Advanced Warfare, might not be the best choice, it is worth noting that these guys have been working closely with Activision on the Call of Duty franchise for some time and we are eager to see how well will they do.

For what it's worth, Sledgehammer Games co-founder, Michael Condrey, said that getting back to the WWII scenario is "a great honor" for the studio and that it has spent two and a half years researching that topic.

To no surprise, it appears that the first mission will be the D-Day landing at Normandy, which, although a washed-out topic, is still the most iconic part of the World War II, next to the Battle of the Bulge, Monte Cassino, Stalingrad and other similar battles.

According to known details, the story focuses on an American squad in the later years of the war, most specifically, a group of recruits that start their journey with the invasion of Normandy.

In addition to the single-player campaign, the game will also have a multi-player part which has been completely redesigned but both Activision and Sledgehammer Games are keeping most of the details for an E3 reveal later in June.

While Activision did not give out a specific release date, earlier rumors pointed out at November so hopefully, the publisher will confirm this at the E3 show in June.
