Runs Doom at 71 FPS at 25.7W

After the official announcement of the AMD Ryzen Z1 series processors earlier today, Asus went live announcing a big launch event for its ROG Ally handheld Windows 11 gaming console for May 11th, where we'll get the official information about specifications as well as the price. In the meantime, some performance details have leaked from a closed event, and a rumored price range as well.

According to details coming from Twitter and one rather blurry picture that was taken from the video that you can see below, the Asus ROG Ally console with Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor will be able to run Doom Eternal game at a steady 71 FPS, while drawing 25.7W. Although we do not know the actual settings for the game, this is still a pretty neat result, especially since the temperature is holding at 56°C.

In case you missed it earlier, the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme SoC is a custom version of the upcoming 4nm Phoenix APU featuring an 8-core/16-thread Zen 4-based CPU as well as an RDNA 3-based iGPU with 12 CUs (adding up to 768 stream processors). It supports LPDDR5 memory as well. The SoC was clocked at 1.7GHz CPU and 2.1GHz for the iGPU while it was running the game.

Other coming from PCGamer.com suggests that the ROG Ally could launch at below $1000, which is a pretty high price tag, especially since the most expensive Steam Deck sells at $649. Of course, the ROG Ally has a much better screen as well as better hardware, so we have to wait and see what Asus has prepared for May 11th.
