Black Myth: Wukong hits snag on Xbox

Memory issue creates crashes

The Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong seems to have encountered a memory issue that is causing it to crash.

While the game has been popular on the PC and PS5 it has not been released on the Xbox because developers at Game Science have been unable to get it to go.

According to a leaker, eXtas1stv, a port ran afoul of a "Memory Leak," which caused crashes. The technical issue was reportedly big enough to indefinitely hold off the Xbox launch.

Though it was initially claimed that the port was near completion in every other respect, solving memory leaks is tricky. The issues crop up when a game doesn't let go of memory it's no longer using—very slowly chewing through available resources until crashes occur. Fixing memory leaks typically requires in-depth debugging and refactoring of code.

Last week, Microsoft stated that it is "excited to launch Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms." Both Vole and Game Science declined to give a release date.
