Zotac shows its new ZONE handheld prototype at CES 2025

AMD Strix Point APU, more RAM and storage, in a similar package

In addition to the full lineup of Geforce RTX 50 series graphics cards, Zotac's new ZONE gaming handheld prototype was also spotted at the CES 2025 show in Las Vegas. Zotac decided to update the console with AMD Strix Point APU, as well as give it 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and 1TB of storage.

Pictured by Techpowerup.com, the new Zotac ZONE handheld prototype retains the same 7-inch AMOLED screen, which made the original stand out in the handheld market as most other handheld consoles were stuck with LCD screens.

The biggest update is the new AMD Ryzen AI HX 9 370 APU which packs a 12-core/24-thread Zen 5 CPU as well as a much powerful Radeon 890M RDNA 3.5 architecture GPU with 16 Compute Units. The APU in question also has XDNA2 NPU. This is a significant upgrade from the Ryzen 7 8840U APU in the original ZONE console released last year. Zotac also equipped it with 32GB of LPDDR5X memory, and 1TB M.2 2280 SSD. On the other hand, it still comes with the same 48.5Wh battery.

Of course, bear in mind that this is just a working prototype, and with AMD's Ryzen Z2 Extreme SoC announcement, Zotac might change a few things before the launch. Hopefully, we'll see it soon enough as the original Zotac ZONE handheld was a bit late to the party.
