The company has announced that it is rolling an official update for the phone that will fix some of the phone's issues. In our tests we noticed that phone reached 50 plus Celsius when you use Skype or Hangouts and you could see the battery percentage dropping thanks to the phone's super-high consumption.
We saw these heating issues and the huge battery consumption of the M9 phone with 1.32.401.15 software.
This update apparently fixes the fault where the battery tends to get too hot when you use smart chargers and the the battery hog when you use the camera or video. The update that has been rolling out for two days now gets the software to 1.40.401.5.
HTC claims that the update addresses:
-
Overall improvements to battery life, which reduce power consumption by YouTube, Facebook, and other popular social apps like Skype and Google Hangouts, so you can watch more videos or have video chats with your loved ones for longer periods of time
-
Improved smart charging, so your phone stays cooler while it’s being charged
The second thing that the update addresses is the camera. Many have complained about the camera and HTC update will address it.
Camera
-
Greater auto-exposure balance algorithm to improve overall dynamic range, so images appear more detailed and balanced, especially in bright light conditions
-
Additional improvements for pictures taken in low light, so images are clearer, detail is more apparent, and colors appear truer to life
The update has been pushed in Taiwan and some European phones, US phones will get this update within a month. This does not seem fair but HTC needs to undergo some additional qualifications for its AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon or Sprint phones.
We hope that update can fix the battery life as according to every test we tried the phone is worse than HTC One M8. It makes a mockery of the claim that you got a better experience on the Snadragon 810 based, 64-bit octa core processors.
