Priced at INR 9,999 (US $155/€125), the Redmi Note 5 might seem like familiar devices and it does not come as a surprise as this is basically a rebranded Redmi 5 Plus for India. It has a 5.99-inch 18:9 aspect ratio IPS screen with 2160x1080 resolution covered by a 2.5D glass.

It is powered by Qualcomm's well known Snapdragon 625 SoC with octa-core Cortex-A53 2.0GHz clocked CPU cores and Adreno 506 GPU. It comes with 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB RAM and storage configurations, features 12-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera, has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and runs on Android 7.1.2 OS with MIUI 9 on top of it. It has a non-removable 4000mAh battery which had a good endurance rating on the Redmi 5 Plus.

The new Redmi Note 5 Pro is a whole different story. Priced at INR 13,999 (around US $220/€175), the Redmi Note 5 Pro features the same 5.99-inch IPS screen with 18:9 aspect ratio and 2160x1080 resolution but comes with the new Snapdragon 636 SoC. This one has eight Qualcomm Kryo 260 CPU cores (4+4) clocked at up to 1.8GHz and uses the Adreno 509 GPU, which should make it significantly snappier than the Redmi Note 5.

The Snapdragon 636 SoC will be paired up with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage space. It also comes with the same 4000mAh battery but comes with a dual rear camera with 12- and 5-megapixel sensors. The front camera has been updated to a 20-megapixel one with LED selfie light.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro lacks USB Type-C port and only supports 5V/2A charging with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, despite the fact that Snapdragon 636 SoC supports QC 4.0.

Both the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro will be available in Black, Gold, Rose Gold, and Blue color options and should be available as of February 22nd on Flipkart and Mi.com.
