Just as was the case with the previous generation, the Pro version is getting a better screen and camera, while both phones stick with the same Tensor G2 chip. The Pixel 7 series has got a decent upgrade from the previous generation and the Pixel 7 Pro finally feels like a proper flagship smartphone. 

It is all about the Tensor G2 SoC

The biggest update is obviously the new Tensor G2 chip. Made on Samsung's 4nm manufacturing process, the Tensor G2 packs the same CPU configuration, with two Cortex-X1 cores, two Cortex-A76, and four Cortex-A55 cores.

The GPU got a major update, as we are looking at Mali-G710 MC10, promising both performance and efficiency improvements compared to the previous generation as well as a 35 percent boost in machine learning, which is quite important for Google's camera system.

It also gets the new Tensor processing unit, which also improves machine learning by 60 percent, and it is also 20 percent more efficient. Google heavily relies on ML for its camera AI part.

The Tensor G2 SoC is paired up with 12GB of RAM on the Pixel 7 Pro and 8GB of RAM on the Pixel 7, as well as 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB (only for Pixel 7 Pro) of UFS 3.1 internal storage.

Google Pixel 7 Pro feels like a proper flagship

The Pixel 7 Pro might be Google's first Pixel phone that feels like a proper flagship, as in addition to the Tensor G2 SoC, which does not sound half bad on paper, it also gets a 6.71-inch QHD+ LTPO screen with a 10-120Hz refresh rate. The design is slightly less curved and it is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.

Talking about the design side, the Pixel 7 Pro looks pretty nice with a dedicated camera bar, a slightly curved design, and pretty slim bezels. It measures 162.9x76.6x8.9mm and weighs 212g, uses Gorilla Glass Victus for front and back, has an aluminum frame, and is IP68 rated.

The camera system also got a major update, featuring a main 50MP 1/1.31” sensor with 4-in-1 binning, placed behind an f/1.85 lens. It also gets OIS and electronic stabilization. The main camera is backed by a 12MP 1.25µm sensor with 125.8° FoV ultrawide lens, which also gets autofocus, making it capable of macro shots. Finally, there is also a 48MP 0.7µm sensor with a 5x optical magnification telephoto lens that is capable of doing 30x Super Res Zoom.

The front camera is now a 10.8MP 1.22µm one, behind an ultrawide f/2.2 21mm lens.

The rest of the key features usual connectivity options, an under-display fingerprint sensor, and a 5,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging and 23W wireless charging.

The Pixel 7 gets pretty cut-down specs

The Pixel 7 got pretty beat down when it comes to specs, but, retained the Tensor G2 SoC, only paired up with 8GB of RAM.

While it retains the general design idea of the Pixel 7 series, the Pixel 7 is also quite smaller, thinner, and lighter. It measures 155.6x73.2x8.7mm and weighs 197g. Luckily, it still uses the same Gorilla Glass Victus for front and back, as well as an aluminum frame, and the smaller size might certainly appeal to certain buyers.

The Pixel 7 also gets an AMOLED screen, but this time around, you get a lower 2400x1080 resolution and a lower 90Hz refresh rate.

The camera also got a pretty big hit, and while you still get the same 50MP main sensor with OIS and the same 12MP sensor with ultrawide lens, Google decided to kill the 48MP telephoto one, so you'll have to stick with closer subjects when taking pictures. The front camera is the same with a 10.8MP sensor behind an ultrawide f/2.2 21mm lens.

The rest of the specs are pretty much the same, but it comes with a smaller 4355mAh battery with 30W wired fast charging and 20W wireless charging.

The price is pretty good for what Google offers

The Google Pixel 7 Pro starts at €899/$899/£849, which is not half bad for a proper flagship smartphone, making it slightly cheaper than what is currently on the market in that segment. The Pixel 7 is cheaper and it starts at €649/$599/£599 for the 128GB version, and while some things got cut down, it is still a decent smartphone at $600.

The good side of the story is that Google also bundles it with a free Pixel Watch LTE if you pre-order the Pixel 7 Pro, and the Pixel 7 gets Pixel Buds Pro.
