by on09 March 2023

Additional privacy, security, and performance improvements

Just under a month after the first Android 14 Developer Preview, Google has now released the second one, bringing additional improvements as well as refining the experience on large-screen devices.

As noted over at the Android Developer Blog, the new Developer Preview of Android 14 brings additional privacy, security, performance, developer productivity, and user customization, while continuing to refine the large-screen device experience on tablets, foldables, and more.

The second Android 14 Developer Preview now brings app quality guidance for large screen with checklist that allow developers to review their app, and brings libraries supporting low latency stylus and motion prediction.

When it comes to privacy and security, there is the Photo Picker for apps that need to access media, new Credential Manager as a platform API, which, in addition to supporting passwords, allows your app to sign-in using passkeys.

The rest of privacy and security improvements include safer implicit intents and background activity launching.

It also brings several background optimizations, improvements in notifications, improved App Store experiences, a bunch of personalization improvements with regional preferences, better app compatibility testing and more.
