Redmi and realme on the list of devices coming this month

Qualcomm has announced its newest Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 mid-range chipset, featuring an octa-core (1+3+4) CPU configuration, and promising a 50 percent CPU performance improvement, 2x GPU performance boost, and 13 percent better power efficiency.

Qualcomm has skipped a few generations with Snapdragon 7 series, as there were no Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 or the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2, so we are going straight to the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2.

Surprisingly, Qualcomm did not reveal a lot of details for the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, so we only know it is a 4nm SoC based on a next-gen Kryo CPU architecture and has the 1+3+4 CPU configuration, with the main Kryo CPU core clocked at up to 2.91GHz. We are looking at a single Cortex-X2 core, backed by three Cortex-A710 cores, and four Cortex-A510 cores. It supports LPDDR5-3200 memory.

It is paired up with an unnamed Adreno GPU, which offers 2x the performance. Despite an impressive performance boost, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 offers up to 13 percent better power efficiency, all compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC. The chip supports up to QHD+ at 120Hz 10-bit display with HDR10+.

Samsung included the new 18-bit Qualcomm Spectra Triple ISP with Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, with support for up to 200MP single-camera and Multi-frame Noise Reduction (MFNR), AI-based auto-exposure, AI-based auto-focus, AI-based face detection, Locally Motion Compensated Temporal Filtering (MCTF), and Low light photography architecture features.

It comes with the new Qualcomm AI Engine with 2x the performance and 40 percent better performance per Watt, Snapdragon Sound Technology, Snapdragon Elite Gaming, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 technology.

It also comes equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF system with peak download speed of up to 4.4Gbps. It is also paired up with Qualcomm FastConnect 6900, offering Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. There is also Qualcomm's Location Suite with QZSS, Galileo, Beidou, GLONASS, NavIC, and GPS.

“Snapdragon is synonymous with premium mobile experiences. Today’s launch of the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 illustrates our ability to bring some of the most in-demand flagship features to our Snapdragon-7 series—making them accessible to more people,” said Christopher Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile handsets, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We are committed to delivering the most innovative solutions to meet the needs of consumers, our customers, and the industry at large.”

According to Qualcomm, the first devices with Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 should be available this month and the list so far includes Redmi and realme.
