For those who don’t know, Jobs’ Mob is desperate to get away from Qualcomm modems, even to the point of buying Intel’s modem business.  It has spent billions of dollars researching and developing its custom modems, and still not managed it.

Apple's modems are experiencing performance and overheating issues, which have delayed the launch. Based on prior reports, the custom versions will arrive next year with the release of the iPhone SE 4 and the iPhone 17 lineup.

Now, it is starting to look like Apple’s new modems will not benefit the end user because it is so far behind Qualcomm’s offering. This leaves the Tame Apple Press in a quandary because it has nothing to advertise.

What it seems to be doing is saying, without a shred of evidence “yes we know it is bad, but Apple will improve it in the future.” Of course this gives no reason to buy it now, or even next year if they come out.

One TAP writer even suggested that Apple employees "acknowledge that customers don't really care who makes the modem in their phone."

One of the TAP tricks is to talk about future Apple projects as if they were real, rather than potential vapourware.

“Down the road, there are plans for Apple to fold its modem design into a new wireless chip that handles Wi-Fi and Bluetooth access. That would create a single connectivity component, potentially improving reliability and battery life,” wrote one.

“Apple could also one day combine all of this into the device's main system on a chip, or SoC. That could further cut costs and save space inside the iPhone, allowing for more design choices,” breathlessly wrote another.
