Intel plans to launch a 2GHz dual-core Celeron and it intends to do this on the May 11th. The new CPU is branded as the Celeron Dual-Core E1400 and it works at 2.0GHz, has 512KB cache memory and it operates on an 800MHz FSB. It will sell for US$54, but only to distributors who will buy a huge number of these.
The currently available dual-core Celeron E1200 at 1.6GHz won’t drop in price, at least not on May 11th, but we are sure Intel will have to drop its original price, as both the 2.0GHz E1400 and the 1.6GHz E1200 will cost the same $54.
This is the only product that Intel plans to launch in May, with the E7200 already being available and it is selling in Europe from about €115.
