by on01 October 2024

Ranging from $699 to $199

Most AMD motherboard partners, including Asus, ASRock, Gigabyte, MSI, and others, have already announced their X870E and X870 motherboards, and now, these are finally available in all major retail/e-tail shops. In case you missed it, these support the latest AMD Ryzen 9000 series, as well as previous Ryzen 8000 and Ryzen 7000 series CPUs, and are aimed at enthusiasts bringing better VRM, WiFi 7, and USB 4 support.

There are plenty of motherboards to choose from, ranging from high-end ROG, Taichi, AORUS, and MPG models, down to Gaming and Pro series that usually cost less. According to Newegg.com, the cheapest motherboard based on the X870 chipset is the ASRock X870 PRO RS, priced at $199.99, while the most expensive one comes from ASUS ROG, and it is the Crosshair X870E HERO, priced at $699.99.

So far, all the motherboards are mostly based on the standard ATX form-factor but there are some mini-ITX motherboards as well. Same goes for AMD B850 and B840 motherboards that should be coming early next year, around CES 2025. The X870/X870E motherboards come with support for DDR5-5600 to DDR5-8000 memory, bring USB 4 support, and WiFi 7. The X870 brings slightly less PCIe lanes, while the X870E has more due to the use of two Promontory 21 dies.
