Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 leak shows promising specs

by on26 March 2025

Chip naming circus continues

Qualcomm is gearing up to launch the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 in April 2025, but while there seem to be some promising specs, there is some confusion about what the chipmaker will call its new products.

Initially whispered to be called the Snapdragon 8s Elite, the upcoming SoC is shaping up to be a slightly less heroic version of its flagship sibling.

According to the Digital Chat Station, it’ll sport a 1+3+2+2 core layout featuring a Cortex-X4 running at 3.21 GHz, three Cortex-A720s at 3.01 GHz, two additional A720s at 2.80 GHz, and two efficiency-focused cores operating at 2.02 GHz.

The GPU department will be handled by the Adreno 825 — a junior member of the same family as the more powerful Adreno 830 found in the Snapdragon 8 Elite. It might not be top-shelf gaming silicon, but early whispers suggest this chip is no slouch, with AnTuTu benchmarks allegedly surpassing the 2 million mark. Not bad for a chip that’s meant to sit somewhere between “flagship” and “we couldn’t afford the real one.”

It features 6MB of SLC and 8MB of L3 cache, which should enhance performance and power efficiency.

Smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 are expected to roll out soon after its launch, with the iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro and Redmi Turbo 4 Pro leading the charge. The latter is expected to rebrand itself globally as the Poco F7. This move suggests a dartboard is in charge of Xiaomi’s product naming department.

Also sniffing around the launch are Xiaomi’s Civi 5 Pro and Oppo’s K13 Pro, both hoping to ride the “not quite a flagship but still kinda fast” wave to relevance.

Of course, none of this is official yet, so take it all with the usual Qualcomm-sized grain of salt. However, if true, it appears that April could bring another mildly confusing yet powerful chip to the Android SoC party.
