Getting more serious about GPU drivers

AMD appears to be getting more serious about its GPU drivers and is hiring a CPU performance engineer to speed things up.

Lately AMD has been spending its days improving the software side of its hardware with technologies like HSA, Mantle, and the still fresh Omega drivers.

Now it looks like AMD wants to improve its Catalyst driver suite, with AMD hiring a CPU performance engineer to help them optimise their graphics drivers in CPU heavy gaming workloads.

According to a job advert found by Tweak Town AMD wants a person who can analyze CPU bound benchmarks and games to identify a variety of CPU bottlenecks in drivers, optimise the drivers, and providing optimisation actions to ISVs.

The successful candidate will analyse new CPU architecture impact on driver performance and translate into actionable tasks. This position requires the candidate to collaborate with graphics and CPU architects at multi-sites across multiple graphics driver components, the advert says.
