Samsung Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34 officially announced

by on15 March 2023

Mid-rangers with 120Hz SuperAMOLED screens

Samsung has now officially announced both its mid-range smartphones, the Galaxy A54 and the Galaxy A32, both with the same 120Hz SuperAMOLED panels, but different sizes and hardware.

Both phones have a similar design with a triple rear camera setup and are both IP67 certified. The Galaxy A54 has a punch-hole front camera design, while the Galaxy A34 comes with the so-called teardrop front camera. Both also come with a 5,000mAh battery with 25W wired charging, as well as under-display optical fingerprint sensor.

Surprisingly, the Galaxy A54 is a smaller phone, measuring at 158.2x76.7x8.2mm and weighing 202g, with its 6.4-inch 1080p SuperAMOLED 120Hz refresh rate screen with Vision Booster support. The heart of the Galaxy A54 is Samsung's own 5nm Exynos 1380 chipset, an octa-core SoC with four 2.4GHz Cortex-A78 cores and four 2.0GHz Cortex-A55 cores, as well as the Mali-G68 MP5 GPU. The SoC is paired up with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage, as well as a microSDXC card slot.

The rear camera system on the Galaxy A54 features a main 50MP sensor with PDAF and OIS behind an f/1.8 wide lens, backed by a 12MP sensor with an f/2.2 ultrawide lens, and a 5MP sensor for macro. The front camera is a 32MP one with an f/2.2 26mm wide lens.

The Galaxy A34 ends up being a bigger phone with the same (or similar) but a larger 6.6-inch 1080p SuperAMOLED 120Hz screen. This leaves it with 390pp of pixel density, a bit less than 403ppi on the Galaxy A54. It measures 161.3x78.1x8.2mm and weighs 199g, making it lighter than the Galaxy A54, which could also mean that the Galaxy A54 uses different materials or has better screen/back protection.

The Galaxy A34 gets MediaTek's 6nm Dimensity 1080 SoC, which is also an octa-core chipset with four 2.6GHz Cortex-A78 cores and four 2.0GHz Cortex-A55 cores. The GPU is Mali-G68 MC4, so Exynos 1380 might come out on top. It also comes with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage expandable via a microSDXC card slot.

The rear camera system on the Galaxy A34 gets the main 48MP sensor with PDAF and OIS, and an f/1.8 26mm wide lens. It is backed by an 8MP sensor with an f/2.2 ultrawide lens, and 5MP macro sensor. The front camera is a letdown at just 13MP.

The rest of the specifications are pretty much the same, and both come in Lime, Graphite, Violet, and White/Silver color options.

Apparently, both phones should be available in Europe as of this month, starting at €390 for the Galaxy A34 and €490 for the Galaxy A54.
