During a recent two-day event in Los Angeles, the company said that its chips outperformed Apple’s M3 and M3 Pro chips in various tasks, including multitasking, image processing, and gaming.

AMD claimed its new Ryzen chip "exceeds the performance of what MacBook Air has to offer in multitasking, image processing, 3D rendering, and gaming"; "is 15 per cent faster than the M3 Pro" in Cinebench; and can power up to four displays, "unlike the MacBook Air, which limits you to two displays only."

The Tame Apple Press, in the form of the Verge, was furious that AMD could even consider releasing a product saying it was better than Jobs’ Mob.

“At that event, I heard AMD brag about beating the MacBook more than I've ever heard a company directly target a competitor before.”

Either they have not been reporting on the chip industry for long or can’t conceive of someone trash-talking their favourite computer company.

The Verge reporter also used the word “bragged” far too often, indicating that it was a hit piece or they don’t get to go to press launches as “bragging” is their sole function. She weakened his point by admitting that AMD mentioned Qualcomm and Intel a lot too.

The article suggested a conspiracy theory that AMD forbade journalists present at the event to thoroughly test or validate these features, leaving many questions unanswered about the chips' real-world performance.

“The company's reluctance or inability to showcase certain capabilities, particularly in gaming and AI applications, has raised eyebrows among industry observers,” the report adds.

Really? Which observers? The technology industry is entirely within its wheelhouse not to release chips or show anything to journalists at a press event on the very safe assumption that they have no means of testing them.

Even if they had given them to Apple fanboys, how could they have tested them? The Verge believes that testing is done by an Apple fanboy or fangirl placing their hands on a computer with the new chip inside and playing a game. It does not work that way. If it did, Apple would be declared to be the fastest, bestest, all the time.

Likewise, Apple does not release its chips for journalists to play with on a pre-release either and it tells the world+dog that they are better than their rivals. Apple pre-launch events involve journalists shaming themselves and cheering.

The new Ryzen AI chips will debut in Asus laptops on 28 July.
