Gelsinger tries to put a silver lining into disappointing results

Despite Intel's disappointing results, the company used the announcement to reveal some of its chip plans.

Gelsinger’s plan is not making money fast enough

Intel’s stock dropped approximately nine per cent within an hour after its first-quarter results and guidance was released on 25 April, following the close of regular trading on Thursday.

Clearwater Forest taped-out, five nodes goal still on track

During its Intel Foundry Services (IFS) Direct Connect 2024 event, Intel revealed a new roadmap that includes the new 14A node, the first on High-NA EUV. Intel was also keen to note that Clearwater Forest CPUs are taped out on an 18A node and that its ambitious "five nodes in four years" (5N4Y) plan is still on track.

US chip group Intel is on track to deliver five upgrades to its advanced manufacturing process in four years, CEO Pat [kicking] Gelsinger said.

Revenue down but beats its outlook

Intel has announced its third quarter 2023 financial results, reporting a revenue of $14.2 billion with a 45.8 percent gross margin, and $0.41 EPS. The report shows Intel getting back on track and steady progress on its IDM 2.0 strategy.

Big win for Europe

A moment ago, Intel´s CEO Pat Gelsinger announced the start of high-volume manufacturing on the Intel 4 process technology at Fab 34 in Leixlip, Ireland.

Dual socket 576 E-cores

Intel surprised the audience at the Innovation 2023 event, showing a new Sierra Forest data center processor with a twist. Intel has previously announced that the Sierra Forest has up to 144 Efficiency cores. Still, Gelsinger surprised the audience by showing the two tiles on the same package, resulting in a 288-core CPU.
