New Siri will take two years

Jobs’ Mob scrambles to play catch-up

The Tame Apple Press is reporting a rumour that Apple will have a new version of Siri out of the box to match the large language models that its rivals have had for ages—there is just one snag.

If the rumours are right, the fruity cargo cult will take two years to replace Siri, and when it arrives, it will be a more conversational version of the original product.

This means that Apple is light years behind competitors who have already released impressive features, like Google’s Gemini Live, which are far more natural to talk to than Siri.

The new assistant will reportedly replace the Siri interface that users rely on today, and Apple is planning to release the feature in the spring of 2026. The feature seems similar to OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode but with the same access to personal information and apps that Siri has today.

Meanwhile, Apple will rely on third parties to power the iPhone’s AI features. OpenAI’s ChatGPT will become available inside Apple Intelligence in December, and Apple has reportedly discussed similar deals with other AI providers, such as Google and Anthropic.
